Deb
obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in
political science from the University of Iowa in 1990.
She received her Master of Arts degree in Urban and
Regional Planning from the University of Iowa in May 1996.
She also received her Juris Doctor degree from the
University of Iowa College of Law in December 1996.
She was admitted to the Iowa Bar in 1997 and continues to
be a licensed attorney in the state of Iowa.
In
January 1999, Deb joined the faculty at Mount Mercy
College in the Department of Criminal Justice. As an
assistant professor, Deb also served as chair of the
department from 2000-2003 and 2005-2007. During
2002-03 and 2005-06, she was
also chair of the Social Science Division. She has
served on several search committees, Faculty Welfare, and
Faculty Development.
Deb
has taught a variety of courses in criminal justice,
although her primary area of concentration is criminal
law. She has also taught constitutional law for the
political science department and dispute resolution for
business administration. For the past five winter
terms, Deb has taught a course on terrorism.
Deb
serves as a faculty advisor to the CJ
Club. She also coached Mount Mercy's
Mock Trial
team
for six years, including to three national tournaments. She also serves as a pre-law
advisor, assisting students preparing for the Law School
Admission Test (LSAT).
In
fall 2006, Deb took over the position of Director of
Faculty Development for Mount Mercy College. She
will serve half-time in this position for three years,
while continuing to teach half-time in the Criminal
Justice program.
Deb is a member of the Iowa
Bar Association, the Midwest
Association of Pre-Law Advisors, the Midwestern Criminal
Justice Association, and the Academy of Criminal Justice
Sciences.
